YOUNG PEOPLE’S PERCEPTIONS ON THE PHENOMENON OF LOVE DEPENDING ON THE LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT OF SPIRITUALITY

Abstract

Purpose: to examine empirically the ideas of modern youth about the psychological content of the category of “love”, depending on the level of their spirituality.

Methods: Theoretical methods: (synthesis, comparison, modeling, generalization) have been used to study the scientific literature on issues related to the category of “love”; empirical methods: author’s questionnaire “Love is ...”, multidimensional questionnaire “Motivation of love” (V. F. Morgun); methodology for determining spiritual potential and research of psychological mechanisms of spiritual development “Spiritual potential of personality – 2” (E. A. Pomitkin); the method of revealing the level of consciousness and the formation of the spiritual value orientation of the personality “Realization of desires” (E. A. Pomitkin); methods of quantitative and qualitative processing of results.

Results. Theoretical analysis of the review of modern psychological studies of categories: “love” and “spirituality” made it possible to come to the following conclusion that the phenomena of “love” and “spirituality” can be studied in terms of their qualities, as well as perceptions about them, also as inseparable components in the structure of personality and human life. The conception of youth on the phenomenon of love, depending on the level of spiritual development, has been investigated. 46 people were interviewed, including 26 women and 20 men; including 26 women and 20 men; 8 of them with high levels of spiritual development, 35 with medium and 3 with low.

Conclusions. Positive indicators have been found within the research, although no statistical significance has been revealed. But the study of the phenomenon of “love” cannot be considered complete because of its complexity of and the complexity of the study. In the research of the phenomenon of love and spirituality from the youth’s point of view such facts have been revealed: gender differences of ideas about love, features of present-day youth about the future spouse, differences of ideas about the content of love, changes in the structure of personality depending on the level of spirituality development as a personal aspect in the social context of the present. The conducted interpretation of the research results showed that such an aspect in the interpretation of love as “spirituality” and its level do not affect the results.
